M:ST 5.5
Making Way is a series of performative workshops and outreach activities, intended to support and build the capacity of the performative arts community in Calgary and Southern Alberta. The Workshops developed for this initiative align with pedagogical methodologies by contemporary practitioners.
Leading up to our 2012 Festival, this series is intended to strengthen the capacity and critical discourse of the local / regional performative arts community, and to foster relationships with local, national and international networks. This series will allow new audiences to develop and foster an expansive understanding of performative practice.

In collaboration with the Alberta College of Art + Design, M:ST presents PAS – Performance Art Studies (Germany), a professional studio that is offering intensive studies to young artists, art students and other interested people in Performance Art since 2008. The aim of these studies is to provide the participants a unique form of classes about the big topic of Performance Art and to include the participants into the international network. PAS is a place of artistic research, mediation and new orientation.
MUTOPIA

The Banff Centre
Aligned with the IMAA national conference at The Banff Centre, John Grzinich (Estonia) will facilitate MUTOPIA, a process oriented workshop that explores collaboration, collective creativity and open forms of authorship. This is done through social and environmental site, site specific, video performance, street art, public intervention, or other. Additional workshops may be included in the series' and will be determined in conjunction with partner organizations, to align with their respective programming for the 2011-2012 season.

In partnership with the University of Lethbridge, The Southern Alberta Art Gallery and Trap/Door Artist Run Centre, M:ST 5.5: Making Way presents complementary workshops by Adrian Stimson (Saskatoon) and Rebecca Belmore (Vancouver) that engages participants in critical discourse on contemporary Indigenous performance art theory and praxis.
TouVA

EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts
With the support of The EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, M:ST Presents a workshop by TouVA collective (Anne Baie, Victoria Stanton, Sylvie Tourangeau, Montreal). Through a gradual yet intensive learning process the Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance Art training introduces participants to what is involved in the creation of a live action.
