M:ST 4.5: Ride On!
During the month of July 2009, M:ST presents Ride On!, a series of bicycle-based artworks appearing throughout locations in Calgary. Presented in conjunction with TRUCK’s new TR:AFFIC residency program and The Good Life Community Bike Shop, Ride On! invites you to interact with the work of various artists through hands-on workshops, art installations, and participatory bike rides.
Remember your first bicycle? And the exciting realization that you now had the power to take yourself anywhere you wanted? No longer reliant on parents or older siblings to give you a lift, a bicycle was not just about transportation, but was an expansion of your territory growing the parameters of where you could go and what you could do.
Using the particular mobility and adaptability of bicycle-powered adventure, the projects in this series move out of galleries and studios, and into new landscapes and situations. Including bicycles that play a soundtrack for your ride, record the sounds around you, disappear into the landscape, or take you on a tour of back-alley art projects, this series invites viewers to use and interact with bicycles in new ways, inspiring movement that is less about transportation and more about exploration.
We invite you to come along for the ride!
