Mountain Standard Time Festival brings cutting edge performative art to Southern Alberta

In the spirit of creating exciting relationships between artists, organizations, and communities, the fourth edition of the Mountain Standard Time Festival will take place from October 3rd to 17th 2008. Alberta’s only biennial of performative art, M:ST celebrates innovative and critically engaged performative art in the southern Alberta region.

The M:ST 4 Festival will take place in galleries, public spaces, and surprise locations throughout Calgary and Lethbridge, and will feature over 30 local, national, and international artists in over 25 events. As with past festivals, M:ST 4 will be presented in conjunction with 10 member organizations: the Alberta College of Art + Design, the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, EMMEDIA Gallery and Production Society, the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts, Glenbow Museum, The New Gallery, the Nickle Arts Museum, Stride Gallery, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, and TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary. Additional events will be hosted by the 809 Exhibition Space, Art Central, and the Petite Trianon Gallery.

The programming for M:ST 4 will highlight the vital, evolving character of performative art today. Performances will range from a video and performance parody of Buffalo Bill’s Battle of Little Bighorn by celebrated aboriginal interdisciplinary artist Adrian Stimson, to a group run through Glenbow Museum orchestrated by Toronto-based artists Jenn Goodwin & Rose and Jessica Rose, to the Urban Habitat Laboratory, a mobile, sustainable living space and activist centre facilitated by Lethbridge-based artist Kelly Andres.
