Performative art goes green for the Mountain Standard Time Festival!

With the growing concern around environmental issues, it can seem hard to know how we as individuals can help improve the health of the planet. This October, with support from Alberta Ecotrust, the Mountain Standard Time Festival will present the Urban Habitat Laboratory, a mobile sustainability education centre that will show Albertans how they can make a difference.

A pilot project by Lethbridge artist and environmental educator Kelly Andres, the Urban Habitat Laboratory (UHL) will educate the public about strategies for low-impact living. The human-powered UHL sleeps two, has a small greenhouse, green roof, chicken pasture, web camera, and a solar panel. Andres will use the UHL and its special capabilities to discuss air and water quality, reducing consumption and waste, and alternative forms of energy as she tours the lab around Calgary and Lethbridge.

During its time in Calgary, the UHL will be roosting at 809 Exhibition Space, Calgary's indie garage art space. Drop by 809 on October 14th from Oct 7-9 pm to get a closer look at this exciting and innovative project and chat with Andres about the Lab. www.809er.com

Look out for this dynamic education-centre-on-wheels from October Oct 5-8 in Lethbridge and Oct 14-17 in Calgary. For more details about UHL appearances visit www.mstfestival.org for up-to-the-minute information.
