Performative Art Hits Calgary Bike Trails
Join M:ST for a month of bicycle art!

CALGARY, ALBERTA - During the month of July 2009, the Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival (M:ST), in conjunction with TRUCK’s CAMPER and The Good Life Community Bike Shop, will present Ride On!, a series of bicycle-based artworks.

Ride On! invites the public to interact with artists’ work through hands-on workshops, art installations, and participatory bike rides. Stop by the Good Life Community Bike Shop at Eau Claire Market all month long to watch a video, sign out a customized bicycle or go on a guided bike tour of street art.

Calgary artist collective The Tender Mountain Clan (TMC) have designed a bicycle tour of their favourite street art spots in Calgary. Join them for a guided ride on the afternoons of July 11 and 18, or pick up a map from TRUCK or Good Life for self-guided adventures.

On July 28 & 29 Lethbridge artist Kelly Andres will be showing her bicycled-powered Urban Habitat Lab and offering two workshops about sustainable living practices. Andres will be touring Calgary with the Lab from July 27 – 30.

Jessica Thompson will host an interactive Bike Hack + Soundride workshop on July 30 at 7 PM at the Good Life Community Bike Shop where participants will construct bicycle-mounted noisemakers. Her SOUNDBIKE piece will be available for sign-out from Good Life all through July.

Marc Dulude’s video work, The Invisible Bike will be on display at Good Life throughout July. Using a bicycle covered in mirrors, Dulude rides through the countryside, reflecting and duplicating the bike’s surroundings.

The view from a bicycle is unlike any other, and these works use this unique perspective to explore connections between art, ecology, geography and movement. We invite you to come along for the ride! Visit www.mstfestival.org to register for workshops or read more information.
